Hi, there! I’m Suzy Oakley, and I’m glad you’re here!
I’m a former newspaper editor, and I live in Batesville, Ark., with my husband, Bruce, running coach extraordinaire. That’s him in the pics with me. I kinda like him; can you tell?
When I’m not reading, I’m thinking about reading. Or writing. I like both a lot!
I also like Jesus a lot (in fact, I love Him), and I’ll talk about my Savior pretty regularly here. I won’t beat you over the head with a Bible, but I believe that faith in God is the foundation for living your best, most meaningful, joy-filled life. My faith in Jesus is the foundation of everything I do, so, whether I speak of Him overtly or in a less obvious way, He’ll show up. I hope you’ll choose to hang out with me here, whether you’re a Christian or just a book nerd like me.
I published my first book, a Christmas romance, in 2019. The Lord showed up there, both in the pages of the book and in the writing, editing and publishing process. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but it was fun to experience self-publishing for the first time. I’m working on the prequel to that book right now (October 2020) and hope to launch it in November 2020.
Also, a bit of a touchy subject … I have a nonfiction book in the works, but it’s been on the back burner for a couple of years. It’s called The Atheist’s Wife, and it’s about my relationship with Bruce and what it has taught me about respecting others who differ from you. The “touchy” part is that I’ve let the book grow cold as I’ve worked on fiction writing, and I hate it when someone asks how it’s going, LOL. I need to finish it, so feel free to give me a kick in the pants to pick it up again! 😊
My vision for this site
As far as blogs go, this ain’t my first rodeo. I’ve created at least four websites for myself and even more for a few folks who’d rather outsource that than do it themselves. Two of my blogs are active, including this one.
In 2020, I decided to focus the suzyoakley.com website on my business (editing, writing and virtual assistant services) but soon realized that my book-related content needed its own home base.
If you came here, you’re probably a fellow book nerd looking for recommendations, reviews, interviews with authors and occasionally some free goodies. That’s my intention for this site.
I hope you’ll enjoy, comment and suggest. Your feedback helps me give you more of what you want and less of what you don’t want.
